LGBT Rights in Turkey

Tags

According to the article 10 of the 1982 constitution of Turkey “All individuals are equal without any discrimination before the law, irrespective of language, race, color, sex, political opinion, philosophical belief, religion and sect, or any such considerations”. This principle is applied in almost everyone in Turkey, but still LGBT people are a little bit ignored. Yet, I believe that we need to change this situation.

I’m well aware of the fact that such changes cannot be made straightforwardly in Turkey because our society is not totally ready for this. But I thought of being a deputy in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and prepared a speech that I would deliver if I were in their shoes.

In my speech I mentioned LGBT rights in our country:

Unfortunately “Islamophobia”, fear of Muslims in other words, is very common in the USA and the European countries. Muslim people are generally tagged as “terrorist” in many part of the world. Yet, According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. Thus, I believe, we need to say “NO” to religious discrimination and provoke a public outcry against the intolerable actions carried out due to Islamophobia!

“Tractor Beams” are no longer sci-fi!

Personally I watch so much sci-fi TV series and films and read sci-fi books. Some people say that I am just a dreamer when I try to persuade them to believe that imaginary elements in those productions may one day come true.

Today, I have read a piece of news that amazed me a lot: Tractor beams which are a well-known concept in science fiction and which pull the objects towards observers have been discovered!

‘Unzipped’ Carbon Nanotubes Could Help Energize Fuel Cells and Batteries

As you know, in fuel cells and metal-air batteries platinum catalysts are used because it is the most effective one. However, platinum catalysts come out to be too expensive when large-scale commercialization is considered. According to scientists at Stanford University,  multi-walled carbon nanotubes riddled with defects and impurities on the outside could replace some of the expensive platinum catalysts, which would be much cheaper and as effective as platinum.

Usain Bolt could have run faster!

From time to time, I come across some studies of mathematicians that make me ask “Why would they waste time with such things?” Here I would like to share one of such news.

In fact, I would not be interested in this, but it surprised me a little bit. This piece of news is about Usain Bolt which claim that he could have run faster. According to mathematicians, he could have run 0.13 seconds faster.

As a person who is amazed by his success, this works of mathematicians surprised me a lot. I think you might be interested too if you are into maths and sports:

GO!

I don’t know if you watch the movie “A Beautiful Mind”, but a board game that has also been played there attracts my attention so much. The name of the is “Go”.

Originated in China about 3.000-4.000 years ago, “Go” is a very common game in Asia. It is a territorial game and it certainly helps you to develop your critical thinking skills. It seems to be pretty easy at first, but the more you play, the more you realize  how hard it is.

In order to make you learn the basics about Go, I have produced a short piece of writing. You can find my references at the end of the writing.

GO!

Hope it helps!
